Youth Association numbers are up
AjPHA continued to move forward in 2012, with continued support and interaction with the regional clubs as well as the 4-H program. The sponsorship program for state 4-H shows was enhanced this year with additional money for clubs to host an event or awards for the youth at the state 4-H show. The 2011-2012 Presidential Service Project serving Saint Jude Children’s Hospital brought some much-needed funding for a great charity and fun for AjPHA members. The 2012 Club of the Year Award was taken home by the Arizona Junior Paint Horse Club who also received a $1,000 check sponsored by Carson Underwood. The Missouri Paint Horse Club came in a close second. The recipient of the Youth Member of the Year award and a $1000 scholarship was Kelsey Ritchie from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The 2012 Youth Leadership Conference took the youth to Grapevine, Texas, for some Texas-size fun and brainstorming. The kids were involved in meetings and decision-making along with a little bit of fun added in. The group made a huge effort to bring sportsmanship to the forefront by creating a Code of Conduct that was presented to the entire APHA Workshop membership. The Code of Conduct made its debut at the 2012 Youth World show and created a positive atmosphere for the youth. What a great year we have had, and are looking forward to continued growth and development in 2013.
For the frst time, 25 AjPHA leaders also convened at APHA Workshop for their Youth Leadership Con- ference, doubling the numbers from the 2011 event.
