Effective January 1, 2013, horses eligible for registration with the AQHA or the Jockey Club will be eligible for registration with APHA if they meet the specifc registration requirements which includes new color specifcations per Rule RG-070-1. Half-points will be awarded in classes with two entries. In classes of three to fve entries, the frst place horse will receive 1 point, and the second place horse will receive ½ point. Individuals may re-qualify for Novice eligibility per Rule AM-205 if they have not earned any performance points, money, or a World Champion or Reserve World Champion title within the previous 10 years.

• Grace Harris of Vancouver, Washington, was named Distinguished Service Award recipient. A true ambassador for the Paint Horse breed, Grace has supported the association with local and national participation through 37 years of promotion and service.

• Farnam and APHA announced the activation of a new youth scholarship program as a result of their recent partnership. Two $1,000 scholarships are made available to AjPHA members who show their Breeders’ Trust-nominated horses in youth or novice youth classes at APHA-approved shows through March 31, 2013.

• The APHA World Show was held November 7-17 at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. The second of two world showcase events is dedicated to competition for Amateur and Open competitors in a full range of disciplines in a total of 241 classes. In all, more than $320,000 in prize money was distributed over the course of the show, which drew 848 horses and 2,158 entries.

All-Around Classic Amateur was Heather Meyer of Tucson, Arizona, showing Im Original. All-Around Masters Amateur was Coleen Bull of Reed City, Michigan, showing Timeless Assets. All-Around Novice Amateur was John Zeldenthuis of Fruita, Colorado, showing Maybe Tomarno. High-Point Exhibitor was Ryan Painter of Pilot Point, Texas. High-Point English Horse was Roses And Chocolate, owned by Foxfeld Farms LLC of Aurora, Oregon. High-Point Western Horse was Gay Bar Drummer, owned by Joni Voloshin of Craig, Colorado. The All-Around Open Horse and Oscar Crigler Cattle Award winner was Lookie A Diamond Star, owned by Candace May & Lee Felts of Kenedy, Texas.

The Farnam 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes class drew a large crowd and paid out $40,000. Agent Dinozzo, owned by Ann Cowan of Auburn Hills, Michigan, and shown by Randy Wilson was named champion with a payout of $12,800 in the inaugural event. A free 3-hour clinic by world-renowned horseman Pat Parelli drew a crowd of more than 900 enthusiasts. Twenty horses changed hands during the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale, including 10 of 35 yearlings consigned to the Sale Stakes session.

• Dave Dellin accepted the position as Director of Judges for APHA. His background as a judge and champion horse trainer made him an ideal candidate for the role, which makes him responsible for leading the APHA judge education efforts and monitoring APHA shows across the country.

• Marketing consultant Bruce Anderson accepted a full-time position as Chief Marketing Offcer. He and his team led the fourth quarter membership marketing initiative in 2012 and have plans for several new initiatives going into 2013.

• Dr. Lyle “Doc” Wonderlich of Twin Falls, Idaho, lost his battle with Parkinson’s disease Sunday, December 30. A longtime member, national director and the 1989 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, Doc and his wife, Wilma June “Butch,” were both inducted into the American Paint Horse Association Hall of Fame in October.
