• Longtime Corporate Partner Markel Insurance renewed its contract with APHA for a 15th year with named sponsorship of two of our most vital services: online foal registration and online stallion breeding report.
• Founded in 1987, the Paint Horse Club of Italia marked 25 years as an APHA-approved affliate July 14. APHA President Scot Jackson and APHA Executive Director Billy Smith traveled to Italy to present a commemorative plaque and commend the club’s efforts to champion Paints in Europe.
• July 31 marked the conclusion of the qualifying period for the 2012 APHA World Show. Horses were qualifed by participating at four APHA-approved shows before 8 judges. 2,743 horses met those requirements and were eligible to show at the Open/Amateur World Show in November.
August
• Halter breeders Tommy & Judy Ford of Whitesboro, Texas, partnered with Larry Morse and Robin Robinett of Brazil, Indiana, to collect $15,000, which will provide a $1,000 scholarship to every Youth halter world champion and a $500 scholarship to every Youth halter reserve world champion at the 2013 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show. • AjPHA member Lindsey Conti of Wentzville, Missouri, showed Willow Deelivery to capture the American Ranch Horse Association Youth High-Point title at the ARHA World Show.
September
• Farnam Horse Products became APHA’s newest corporate partner. Farnam, recognized as a global leader in equine care products, signed a three-year major sponsorship agreement. The company is title sponsor of the Farnam Breeders’ Trust 2-Year-Old Stakes classes and Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale.
• Halter horses and exhibitors with Paint Horses made their presence known at the combined National Halter Championship and The Breeders Halter Futurity event in Des Moines, Iowa, which offered more than $1 million in cash payouts. Paints captured championships in color-classes and overall championships in many others.
• The National Reining Horse Association reported that American Paint Horse Colonels Smokingun or “Gunner” offspring have offcially amassed more than $4 million in earnings—pushing him from a $3 Million Sire to a $4 Million Sire in less than one year’s time. The sorrel overo earned nearly $175,000 in his performance career.
October
• Signifcant rule changes and actions were taken at the 2012 APHA Convention in Fort Worth. During the Board of Directors Meeting, 18 rule changes were voted upon; two rule change proposals were defeated and 16 passed. Attending were members of the Executive Committee, 113 National Directors and other involved members from 33 U.S. States and 2 Canadian provinces.
• Craig Wood, Ph.D., of Versailles, Kentucky, was elected to the Executive Committee as the Sixth Committee Member while Gregg Reisinger of Eldora, Iowa, became President. • The Board of Directors approved a resolution that would provide that APHA business be conducted in one annual business meeting in the frst quarter of the year. In 2014, the APHA Convention will be held during the frst quarter as the sole annual business meeting
