Paint Racing Year in Review 2012

For Paint Racing enthusiasts, 2012 was a year of consistent progress.

Familiar favorites continued their winning ways. For the second straight year, 2011 Champion’s CRM Livewire and Flashthechicks earned World Champion Racing titles in the Regular Registry and Solid Paint-Bred divisions, respectively.

CRM Livewire came on strong in the latter part of the year. He fnished frst in the G1 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Derby in August earning $19,254 for the win with a 101 speed index. November brought another win in the inaugural Masterpiece Challenge Race earning $16,670 and taking the feld in the Talimena Handicap adding $14,730 to his bankroll for the year. The 2009 bay tobiano stallion garnered $72,799 in earnings for Dan and Kaye Jones of Kemp, Texas, bringing his lifetime earnings to $90,190. The son of Cartel Success AQHA and out of Elaina Go Go, CRM Livewire was named 2012 Champion 3-Year-Old Colt, Champion 3-Year-Old, #1 Honor Roll Stallion and World Champion Running Horse.

Success started in the spring for Flashthechicks, the 2009 sorrel gelding owned by Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Oklahoma. Flashthechicks brought home frst place earnings in the PSBA Derby at Remington Park Racetrack and the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Derby at Fair Meadows Racetrack bringing his 2012 earnings to $87,532 with lifetime earmings of $273,539. Flashthechicks is the son of Royal Quick Flash and out of Game Chicken. For the second consecutive year, Shirley Wheeler was named the Leading Breeder and Owner, earning a total of $170,809.

Twenty-nine Paint track records were broken at various tracks in the US and Canada with four being broken by the 2012 champions. Mantracker broke three Paint track records in Canada – Ajax Downs 220 yards in 12.07 seconds, Fort Erie 250 yards in 13.53 seconds and 350 yards in 17.97 seconds. Two 2-Year-Olds broke the $100,000 earnings for the year, Ubuyillfy by Country Quick Dash and out of Strafng Run AQHA fnished 2012 with a total of $124,368 for owner Mary Hainline. Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding and 2-Year-Old Lajollas Mr Big Stuff who is by Royal Quick Flash and out of MCM Evelyn Lajolla garnered $112,729 for owner Jane Cullum. Sires Awesome Chrome and Royal Quick Flash made their own headlines in 2012. Awesome Chrome (2001), owned by Awesome Chrome Partnership in McAllen, Texas joined 4 other great stallions in the $1 million sire club while Royal Quick Flash joined Judys Lineage in the $4 million sire club.

Mantracker, owned and bred by Dr. Guylain Paquin of Ontario, Canada, earned the Canadian champion title for 2012. The mare by Country Quick Dash and out of Treasure Winner earned $31,736 for the year bringing her lifetime earnings to $35,603 and a speed index of 95. The new Racing Stakes eligibility rule took effect with the 2012 breeding season, requiring Regular Registered foals have at least one Regular registered Paint parent in the frst generation and Solid Paint-Bred foals have at least one Regular registered Paint parent in both the frst and second generation.
