Fame. A beloved trainer for decades, Wartchow of Ada, Oklahoma, was known as the “King of Paints” for his years of success with the Paint breed until his death in 2003. Remington Park and Fair Meadows hold yearly stakes races in his honor. The all-time leading money earner for Paint racing, Got Country Grip began his career in 2005, breaking his maiden on his frst out. His career brought 16 consecutive wins; one of two horses that broke the modern-day North American record of 15. Got Country Grip continues to hold the leading lifetime money earning title earning more than $360,000.
Lone Star Park Racetrack hosted the inauguaral Masterpiece Challenge race which had seven runners competing for the $27,330 purse. When the dust settled, it was CRM Livewire at the fnish line with a time of 19.84 seconds with SW Eye Candy, Spotless Redneck, Rawhide Legend and Dosofme following.
The Speedhorse Triple Crown program saw Ubuyillfy winning the frst leg, the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity; Lajollas Mr Big Stuff winning the second leg, the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity; and Imachickenkicker winning the Lone Star
Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. Super Glide Harley was named the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa High Point Champion and received $2,500 from sponsor Ra-Max Farms. The 2011 Paul Harber Distinguished Service Award recipient was presented to Ray Graves. Ray began training and racing Paints in the late 1960’s. His success led him to train multiple racing champions including Sky Top Bar, Fair Look, Last Date, Dr Beduino and Aze Beduino to name a few. In 1982, he was named Trainer of the Year and took some of the best Paint horses to the top not only in racing but in his breeding operation known as the Quarter Moon Ranch. He has bred and/or owned over 100 horses during his career. In 1973, Ray co-founded the
Paint Stallion Breeders Association (PSBA), an organization aimed at promoting Paint stallions and their offspring. For years it was the richest Paint futurity in the World and today it remains one of the longest running races for Paints. In 1979, Ray served as President of the Oklahoma Paint Horse Club and on the APHA Executive Committee. He has been an Oklahoma Director since 1966 – being one of an elite group in the association’s history. He has served on the APHA Racing committee since 1968 and continues to be very involved in all aspects of Paint racing.
Paint Racing fnished the year with 465 starters, 386 races and $4,123,244 in purse money. The Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity once again offered the largest purse at $240,760.
