Sunny Hello

The flly is Scotch Bar Dreamcatcher (5/23/2012), call name “Lakota,” by Scotch Bar Man out of my mare, Tuff Cookie Hustle (2001).

I took this photo when Lakota was only a week old last June. I had come home from work and walked up into the pasture to say hello, and was struck by the way the sun and the daisies and the horses came together. I can still feel myself relax every time I look at this photo. Lakota (“Loko” sometimes) is growing into a pretty young lady way faster than I’d like.

My wife Deb and I live outside Madison, Wisconsin, on a small farm with Lakota, her mother “Cookie,” two other horses, four miniature donkeys and an endless cavalcade of dogs and cats.

Winding Down

When APHA Director of Breeders’ Trust Steven Imhof was doing a color inspection in Broomfeld, Colorado, last September, he snapped this photo of AjPHA member Carter Andersen Rissman just days before he turned 5. The son of Steven Rissman and John Andersen, Carter said this is how he unwinds after a tough day of preschool.
